IUS Scholar Joins Canadian Transdisciplinary Network Project on Sustainable Education

The Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada has awarded a grant to a global network of scholars, including Dr. Aliaksandr Novikau, Associate Professor in the Political Science and International Relations (PSIR) study program. This project, titled “Transdisciplinary Network for Impact Research & Practice,” will see Dr. Novikau serve as co-investigator. It aims to foster collaboration in developing transformative learning models for higher education institutions.

The project centers around a co-creation process designed to bring together scholars from around the world from many higher education institutions, including Harvard University (USA), University of Toronto (Canada), George Mason University (USA), University of British Columbia (Canada), University of Glasgow (UK), and Queen’s University (Canada).

The project underscores the critical role of higher education in achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals, notably Target 4.7, which focuses on ensuring all learners acquire the knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development.

This collaborative approach emphasizes knowledge sharing on transformative learning and exploring new possibilities for universities. The ultimate goal is to empower faculty, students, and communities to address global challenges and work towards a sustainable future.

Through a series of workshops and knowledge mobilization activities, the project will establish a transdisciplinary network that will focus on building awareness about sustainable development goals while exploring how universities can better fulfill their role in achieving them. The grant will enable the network to examine the process of modeling as a tool for understanding and theorizing transformative change within the higher education system. This will involve working with systemic and process-relational perspectives of social-ecological systems to synthesize valuable insights.

The participation in the project highlights International University of Sarajevo’s commitment to fostering innovative research and global collaboration in pursuit of a more sustainable future.
