Ph.D. Program

Ph.D. program is designed to prepare students for careers in academic research and university lecturing. It provides students with a solid theoretical foundation while allowing individual research on a wide range of subjects. Students work closely with dedicated, internationally recognized scholars. The department is committed to a broad, interdisciplinary approach to the study of international relations with focus on conflict and democracy studies. The curriculum provides you training in international relations that are both theoretical, multi-disciplinary and policy-relevant.

Major emphasis is placed on research methodology and all students are required to successfully defend an original dissertation of their own design. In addition to completing the dissertation, students are encouraged to present conference papers, engage in collaborative work with faculty members, and submit articles to refereed journals. The small size of the program also contributes to a strong sense of community. Our PhD students create close relationships with faculty in an open, vibrant atmosphere that facilitates interaction and the exchange of ideas.
