IUS Professor Delivers Key Lecture on European Energy Security in Türkiye, Highlighting IUS Jean Monnet Project
On Wednesday, May 14, 2025, Associate Professor Dr. Aliaksandr Novikau, from the Political Science and International Relations (PSIR) study program, delivered a lecture on European Energy Security at Afyon Kocatepe University (AKU) in Türkiye. The lecture was a highlight of AKU Science, Technology, Art, and Sports Festival (AKÜFEST’25) – a traditional annual event designed to provide educational, cultural, social, and recreational opportunities for students and the wider university community.
During his lecture, Dr. Novikau explored the multifaceted concept of energy security, covering fundamental topics such as the conceptualization of energy security, international energy relations, and energy consumption. He illuminated how global imbalances in energy distribution lead to conflicts, providing both historical and contemporary examples to emphasize the strategic importance of energy resources.
The lecture also explained the transition to renewable energy, energy efficiency, and clean energy technologies. Dr. Novikau addressed EU’s policies toward energy independence. Furthermore, he assessed the impact of energy transformation on the labor market and societal structures, highlighting the challenges faced by countries with limited energy resources and stressing that equitable energy access is crucial for sustainable development. The presentation concluded with proposed solutions concerning energy reserves and alternative energy sources.
Dr. Novikau’s presentation highlighted the significant academic work being conducted under the Jean Monnet Project at IUS. He emphasized the critical importance of scientific production in the field of energy security, showcasing IUS's commitment to contributing to this vital area of study.
