IUS Student Lejla Ajdin Participates in Global UGRAD Exchange at Cottey College, USA

Lejla Ajdin, a third-year International Relations major at IUS, has embarked on an exciting academic journey as part of the Global Undergraduate Exchange Program (Global UGRAD). She is currently attending Cottey College in the United States, for a one-semester exchange program.

Lejla’s path to Cottey College began when IUS professor, Dr. Aliaksandr Novikau, informed his class about the Global UGRAD program. This prestigious program, sponsored by the US Department of State, offers one-semester scholarships to outstanding undergraduate students from around the world. The program combines academic study with community service, professional development, and cultural enrichment in the United States. Intrigued by the opportunity, Lejla decided to apply. She submitted essays, letters of recommendation (including one from IUS professor Dr. Joseph Kaminski), and academic documents, and then participated in an interview with experts from the US embassy in Sarajevo.

The application process was time-consuming, but ultimately rewarding. Lejla received her acceptance letter and prepared for her departure to the United States. Despite a last-minute change in flight information due to unforeseen circumstances, she arrived safely to Missouri and began her orientation. One of the highlights of her orientation was signing the Cottey book, a century-old tradition that holds significant meaning for students.

As Lejla continues her studies at Cottey College, she is eager to explore the opportunities that this exchange program offers. She is excited to be part of a diverse student body, meeting young women from all over the world. She believes that this experience will not only enhance her academic growth but also broaden her horizons and prepare her for a successful career. After completing her semester at Cottey, Lejla will return to Bosnia and Herzegovina to continue her studies at IUS.
